POIDS LIBRES is a series of three hand-carved stone sculptures (Black heart, Eggbone, White bow) in the form of free weights. The sculptures can be used for any exercise performed with kettlebells or dumbells. From the series derived a video diptyque entitled POIDS LIBRES: ENTRAINEMENT POUR AMATEUR (Free weights: training for amateurs) where the artist performs a set of classic exercises with the sculptures/ weights. The project questions the status of the untouchable work of art, sitting on a plinth deprived of any haptic relationship or use, and proposes a more direct relationship to sculpture. On another level, the artwork as weight insiting to train in weightlifting, is a metaphor for the artistic practice.
